Estate Manager
My role was a contract manager at a historic 16th century park called wrest park situated in the countryside of Bedfordshire England.
I would manage a team of 2-8 men and woman everyday depending on the time of year.
We would short cut around 40-50 acres of grass a week and rough cut (long grass) about the same annually.
At my time there we planted over 12000 trees and cared for nearly 8000 including cutting dress hedges annually too.
We also carried out historic projects, which included lake restoration, sport lawn building (croquet), parterre garden construction and also the build and maintenance of a late 18th century American garden.
Being a manager of such projects would mean making sure all staff were government trained on all equipment.
This would included, tractors, excavators, large lawn equipment and even the proper use of herbicides.
This role gave me a chance to work with some of the world’s most famous gardeners. It wasn’t just a job to me it was a way of life.
