  • In my current role I rotate between theatre, prep, wards, utility and consulting nurse on a weekly basis.
  • When working in theatre I am responsible for the anaesthesia of multiple patients a day. The procedures vary from orthopaedic procedures such as cruciate surgery and complex fractures to soft tissue procedures such as mass removals and splenectomies.
  • When working in wards I am responsible for the recovery of patients following anaesthesia and inpatients from previous surgery, ensuring I maintain a high standard of care. I am responsible for calculating and administering drugs to patients using the guidance of the Glasgow pain score system.
  • In prep I am entrusted with managing the dangerous drugs keys, accurately calculating drug doses, and providing critical care infusion (CRIs) to patients in need. In this department I am responsible for calculating pre-meds for all patients undergoing surgery and assisting the theatre nurse with clipping and prepping the patient for surgery. I also perform pre and post op radiographs when working in prep.
  • Consulting nurse shifts consist of performing all discharges of inpatients and surgical patients. post op calls are also performed to ensure the patients are recovering well and to answer any queries the owners may have.
