Duties and Related Skills

  • Receive and review outpatient prescriptions from doctors for the full range of pharmaceuticals handled by the pharmacy to include controlled drugs on the formulary; for accuracy, appropriateness, and compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Determine the type of drug or pharmaceutical, form, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with the accepted practice and Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Use Genesis to enter or edit a prescription ordered by the doctor, reviewing patient profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions, and duplicate orders.
  • Assists pharmacists in filling prescriptions by selecting, packaging, and labeling the proper drug and dosage.
  • Support of Deployment pharmacy in preparation for deployments/redeployments, in-processing from deployment, duties including but not limited to pre-packing of medications and dispensing of all medications.
  • Fills drug orders as assigned; maintains control drug accountability.
  • Process prescriptions for disposition.
  • Provide customer service and assists patients with pharmacy related problems at the pharmacy window or by telephone.
  • Determine prepackaging needs for Pharmacy Service and coordinates volunteer staff where applicable.
  • Package, document, and properly label all pre-packaged units for dispensing.

  • Fill prescriptions and medication orders using pharmacy automation.

  • Responsible for maintaining all products that requiring compounding either in small batches for single prescriptions or in bulk preparation to be dispensed as more than one prescription.
  • Monitor and analyze drug use patterns.
  • Advise pharmacist of any significant issues, problems, or concerns relating to the patient or medication.
  • Serve as a pharmacy technician in the pharmacy service of a medical treatment facility (MTF).
  • Receive, review, prepare and fill physician orders.
  • Perform pharmacy checks on sterile orders, bulk drug orders, and replenishment of medical carts.
  • Assist in conducting medication storage area inspections.
  • Assure safe handling procedures for hazardous drugs.
  • Receive, edit, fill prescriptions and dispense to correct patient according to SOP.
