  • Member of the volunteer fire department responsible for responding to emergencies when available or on duty. Shelter Cove is an all hazard department that responds to medical emergencies, structure fires, wildland fires, ocean rescue, vehicle accidents, aviation crashes, and much more.
  • Weekly training in all skills and hazards associated with the nature of the job. Once a month training in ocean rescue training is required by all members of the ocean rescue team.
  • Responsible for all upkeep of PPE and gear issued by the department.
  • Assist with apparatus maintenance/testing and cleaning. Station duties includes upkeep of living quarters, engine bay, and other rooms.
  • Interact with the public during social and holiday events.

Wildland Firefighter

  • Crew member on a type 6 engine working for BLM Northern California District Office. The engine travels within the district to assist on cover assignments primarily on the east side of the state.
  • Responsible for daily vehicle inspection and testing. logging of all miles, hours, fuel and other needs of the engine. Weekly washing and cleaning of the engine are routinely done
  • Assisted the Engine Captain with radio communication, pumping operations, and driving the engine.
  • Conduct all standard functions involved in wildland fire and prescribed burning, suppression, preparation, ignition,monitoring, holding, mop-up.
  • Take and report weather observations to divisions when acting as lookout on wildland fire incidents.
