I started out brand new to the trade and ended up as a journeyman for the contractor. I read blueprints, laid out, prepped and installed pipe. I became very familiar with carbon steel, copper, pvc, cpvc, stainless, aluminum and sanitary process. I put up supports, hangers, hooked up/installed pumps, boilers, cooling towers, VAV units, water heaters and did plumbing (underground and rough ins). Operated lulls, skid steers, lifts, excavators and fork lifts. Installed pipes according to blueprints/specs and made changes as needed with proper coordination. Our main piping systems were hydronics and domestic water.
