Work History

Police Officer

07.1995 - Current

I graduated from Texas State University in 1994 where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. In July 1995, I was hired as a police officer with the City of Irving. I attended the North Central Texas Council of Governments Basic Police Officer Academy and was commissioned as a Texas Peace Officer. I worked in the Patrol Division for approximately seven years. During my time as a patrol officer, I received ongoing training in firearms, use of force, and other areas of law enforcement. In 2002, I was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division and I was a criminal investigator for approximately eleven years.

As an investigator for the Irving Police Department, I worked in Property Crimes, Burglaries, Financial Crimes, and Crimes Against Persons. I also served as the department’s Legal Liaison for over two years. During my time as an investigator, I have received training and experience in the areas of Arrest, Search, and Seizure, Interview and Interrogation, Use of Force, and other law enforcement disciplines. As a detective assigned to investigate Crimes Against Persons for approximately five years, I have acquired additional training and experience in the particular areas of sex crimes, death investigations, crime scenes, and officer involved shootings/deadly force encounters. In September 2012, I attended the Force Science Institute and, upon completion of their program, I was certified as a Force Science Practitioner. I hold a Master Peace Officer Certification. I returned to Patrol in 2014 and, after seven years, I returned to investigations. I have spent the past four years in the Crimes Against Children Unit protecting society's most vulnerable victims. As a detective, I conducted complex investigations involving physical abuse and sexual abuse, as well as child deaths.
