While Serving onboard USS The Sullivan's (DDG-68), a guided missile destroyer, I was selected out of very few onboard to advance from E-3 to E-4 (3rd class petty officer), without taking a written exam, in December of 1998.  This award is very rare to get and only the best in the fleet are awarded this.
