NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICE WORKER

  • Functioning on an organized tray line in order to prepare trays for Veteran meals including placing silverware, cold food and drinks, preparation and serving hot food, as well as checking completed trays for accuracy
  • Performing tray accuracy by recording the contents on a Veteran’s tray after completion
  • Stocking nourishments including juices, soda, milk, yogurt and any dry storage foods
  • Delivering the prepared trays to and serving the meal to Veterans on the Community Living Centers and cleaning the dining room after the meal has been finished
  • The use of Citrix Computrition to compose meal tickets specific to each Veteran as well as to check likes, dislikes, allergies, and dietary restrictions to ensure safety
  • Using Computrition to check the diet activity before and after meal preparation in case of a diet change for a Veteran
  • Communicating with Veterans for ideas of improvement or general suggestions for their overall satisfaction, this is done with a survey read to the Veteran and recording their answers
  • Meal prep for the next meal including measurement for the correct portion for milk, desserts, sides, and salads
  • Sanitization of all work and break room areas after use
  • Completion of required trainings and certification.

Activities

  • I am an active Volunteer at the Canandaigua VA. I have been involved in volunteering at a young age with Veterans offering recreational activities, like playing games, escorting, assisting at meal time.
  • I have accrued over 500 volunteer hours. I have been volunteering in the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center since 2008, under Lucille Olson and Deborah Yurek. My duties have been in recreational and administrative areas and have included the following:
  • - Accompanying on social activities in the community
  • - Providing administrative assistance
  • - Answering telephones
  • - Calling Veterans scheduling appointments for intakes
  • - Copying, faxing on the multifunctional devices
  • - Organizing PRRC files and folders
  • - Filing non-sensitive documents and securing sensitive documents in appropriate bin

  • - Create Visual posters for Veteran classes as well as outside resources
  • - Preparing Classrooms for staff and Veterans (sanitizing, set-up, handouts, visuals)
