Work History

Senior Scientist

Hillsborough County Environmental Laboratory
07.2023 - Current
  • Purchased supplies, equipment and standards necessary to startup the volatile organics lab.
  • Learned the the software required to run instruments including EST Analytical Evolution 2 concentrator and Masshunter GCMS application.
  • Input and identified 524.2, 624.1 and overlapping 8260 compounds using their mass spectrum, including base peaks and relative intensity of remaining ions.
  • Successfully troubleshot baseline noise and tuning issues leading to passing BFB.

Organics Analyst

Benchmark EnviroAnalytical, Inc.
04.2016 - 04.2023
  • Analyzed environmental samples using HP/Agilent GC/Mass Spec to detect volitile organic compounds through methods 8260, 624.1, and 524.2.
  • Analyzed drinking water for haloacetics acids (552.2 method) and pesticides (504.1 method) using an HP/Agilent GC/ECD.
  • Validated results and performed quality assurance to assess accuracy of data.
  • Performed MDL studies, PT's, edited SOP's, and ran calibration curves to ensure a smooth audit.
  • Identified and resolved problems through root cause analysis and research.

Metals Analyst:

  • Used Perkin Elmer Atomic Absorption Spectrometer to go through distillation and analysis process for drinking water samples under standard method 3113B Pb/As/Sb/Cu/Se/Cr/Cd/Ni and EPA 200.9 Tl.
  • Analyzed over 30 metals using a Perkin Elmer Optical Emission Spectrometer for 200.7 method, as well as 6010 solids method.
  • Performed Methyl-Iso-Butyl-Ketone distillation for saltwater samples to be analyzed for copper on the AA (furnace).
  • Carried out TCLP solid extraction for RCRA 8 samples to be run on the OES.

Ion Chromatography Analyst:

  • Carried out analyses of environmental samples using 300.0 method, as well as 300.1 method (oxyhalides) on an Integrion IC instrument, examining peak structure and retention time.
  • Worked on Metrohm IC to get method and hardware up and running, including programming, peristaltic pump tubing, cell membrane and internal filters, as well as setting up a maintenance schedule.
  • Analyzed solids using 9056 method for ion chromatography.

Discrete Analyzer: Seal Analyst:

  • Worked on the seal AQ2 discrete analyzer performing tests for ortho phos, total phos, nitrite, ammonia, silica, and cyanide.
  • Performed regular maintenance on the seals including changing tubing/needles, priming pumps, and washes.
