My name is Butch Conver. I am currently looking to get into corrections to have a more stable career when it comes to benefits and being able to retire. I got into EMS for a more fulfilling career and I love it, However, I need to find a career field with better pay and benefits that is still fulfilling. I will not be able to retire from working in private EMS. I know I do not want to advance to medicine which would bring more pay due to the risk and responsibility of medicine. That leads me to corrections. I got interested in this field by responding to calls at the local prison. I started to do my research and the interest continued to grow. When I finally decided EMS was not my lifelong field I decided I wanted to get into corrections. I am looking for a career to retire from. The past few years I have been able to hold jobs for multiple years. When I was younger I admittedly was a job hopper but I improved myself as I got older. I believe my experience in EMS will benefit a career in corrections. I have worked in high-stress situations in EMS. I have gained critical thinking and situational awareness. I have learned to talk to many people from all walks of life. I have learned professionalism in the face of not-so-friendly patients. I have also learned professionalism after being assaulted by patients and still caring for them. Being an FTO at my current job I will be someone who is receptive to criticism and feedback and will not be a know-it personality. I believe those and many more things from my current job will make me a strong part of a corrections team.
