Ventura County Fire Crew

• Type one fire suppression hand crew
• 40+ hours a week, /Permanent employee
• Daily Operations: crew briefing, A-checks, inventory, physical training, driving, communications, fire study reviews/ training, maintain operational readiness
• Fireline operations: fireline construction direct/indirect/parallel, mop-up, monitoring, burn operations, holding operations, felling operations, preparation for burn operations
• Winter operations: flood control, hazard tree removal, sand bag delivery, fuel projects, prescribed burn operations, help lead and facilitate wildland operation training, fuel reduction for upcoming fire seasons
• Aerial Operations: Crew transportation via helicopter (firehawk) training in long line operations, hoisting, and air ambulance operations, Calling water drops and scouting, utilizing helicopters for aerial ignition for burn operations
• profficient in all parts of a burn operation and the use of firing devices such as drip torches, fusees, bery pistol and throwables
• Able to Maintain and operate specialized firing devices such as the terra torch and heli torch
• Knowledgeable in fuel types, weather and topography and how they affect fire behavior
• Able to collect accurate weather data on the fireline using a belt weather kit and kestral

• Initial Attack, 40+ hours a week, /Seasonal
• Direct and indirect hand line with hand tool
• Proper maintenance of a hand tool
• Mop-up/ dry and wet
• Operating chainsaw/ saw line, bucking, limbing, brushing, felling, maintenance
• Securing black edge
• Operating fire hose/ performing hose lays
• Monitoring fireline

• Develop skills necessary for obtaining a position as a firefighter
• Attend monthly training
• Ride along with engine / support companies during shift deployment
• Work alongside firefighters providing assistance on calls for service
• Provided training for new fire explorers

• Provide product recommendations for customers
• Provide information regarding products
• Assist with training new employees
• Manage inventory
• Reconcile daily transactions
• Open / closing of store

• Assigned to Ventura County Fire Department Station 54
• Received High School credit for job experience / training
• Assigned to the station two to three times per week
• Received training in vehicle extrication, first aid, urban search and rescue, rope rescue, and general firefighter duties
