Work History

Die Repair Technician

Georgia-Pacific
Asheboro, NC
12.1999 - Current
  • I have been employed at GP Asheboro for 24 years. In my tenure at GP, I have gained experience and knowledge in many different roles and responsibilities in this facility. In my current job as Die Repair Tech, I am responsible for Inspecting, repairing, and keeping inventory on cutting dies used in production for manufacturing of boxes. I also keep close communication with management, customer service, salesmen, vendors, floor associates, and occasionally customers. My position is vital to the production and profitability of the company in several ways. Keeping an accurate inventory, and easy to locate storage, makes for ease of finding tooling, therefore minimizing wasted time that could be used in production. Repairing dies on the machine (on press) prevents the crews from having to change the tooling to a backup, or skipping the order. This saves time, which equivilates to major savings to the company. Repairs and alterations to dies that are not on press also contribute to savings by not sending the die out to a vendor for these actions. I have been in my current role for a little over a year.
  • For approximately 5 years, my job title was Baler Operator. In this role, I was responsible for collecting, organizing, and dispatching the plants waste, to be sent out and recycled. This was not a production job, but was an integral part of the plants operations and success. Safety, organization, good, housekeeping, and some minor maintenance where some of the things I utilized while in this position.
  • For 18 years, I held the title of Head Stacker on the corrugator. While in this role, I was responsible for producing quality sheets of corrugated material for both sheet customers, and our in house machines. Being Head Stacker, I was also responsible for leading other employees in production, quality, and safety.
  • In addition to the official job titles I have held while at my current employer, I have worn many unofficial hats by performing several other job duties. In the absence of other employees I have filled in for days and up to months in the following positions: Control Room operator, Corrugator Lift Driver, Double Backer Operator, Converting Lift Driver, Corrugator Clamp Driver, Roll Room Clerk, Waste Water Operator, Machine Scheduling, and have assisted Maintenance in various projects through the years.
