I have a lifelong passion for nursing. I remember raising my hand with confidence when our second grade teacher asked if anyone knew what they wanted to do when they grew up. My mom was a nurse, and that is what I aspired to be! When I was 15, my ninety year old grandma moved into our home, and I was excited to learn her complex care. I would spend nights in her room, ready to jump out of bed if she needed to get up, assist her with feeding, hygiene and mobility, and read her books by Lowes Lenski. Caring for her cemented my commitment to the healthcare dream, and I took a Patient Care Technician Course in my senior year of high school. Since then I have had a handful of PCT jobs, including two stints in Uniontown Hospital Resource Department, various home care positions, and a year on the Pediatric Unit of UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. My dream is finally coming true, as I complete my last semester at the UPMC Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, as a member of the honor society and with an eagerness to start my first nursing job next year!
