Civil Engineer Associate: Street Use Public Space Management Permit Reviewer

  • Provides subject matter expertise for long-term and short-term uses of the public right of way, applying and interpreting relevant codes, regulations (e.g. Streets Illustrated, Seattle Municipal Code, City Spec & Standard Plans, and SDOT Director’s Rules).
  • Programs included: waterway/underwater streets, areaways, outdoor dining, public/private events, private structures, public amenities, private utilities, block parties, vending, shoreline street end improvements, pole banners, and public artwork.
  • Performs technical and field reviews for long and short-term uses of the public right of way.
  • Project management of Street Use review processes, guiding external applicants, and reconciling internal and external stakeholders’ comments through coaching, application screening, and subsequent review cycles.
  • Facilitates and leads site and virtual meetings with business owners, residents, community organizations, city agents and permit reviewers, and senior level staff across various agencies.

Performs regular site walk-throughs for projects in construction to assess the conditions of existing trees, inspect tree protection, and provide oversight of pruning (root and canopy) to conform with ANSI A300 standards.
  • Performs contract administration activities including reviewing change orders and responding to submittals; preparing field notes; collecting material samples; attending final walkthroughs; and compiling as-built records.
