I enjoyed my years in the Marine Corps. After leaving active military service I became an active Mom to my two children. I donated many hours to schools and teams in positions such as lead of fundraising committees, ran the school talent show for 5yrs and was the pto treasurer for 5 years. I crafted costumes and snacks, I stitched and I learned simple updos & choreography- all skills learned as a Marine that helped make having daughters more enjoyable.
As a Mom, I have helped design first communion gowns my Grandmother brought to life. I have shopped for many gowns in all types of stores and have taken groups to find mother & grandmother of the bride gowns. I have helped with simple alterations or adding appliques. I have a gown closet with family gems dating back to the 1920s to include wedding and prom gowns. These pieces are still worn today by the younger generation.
As I look to re-enter professional life, I am met with an 18yr gap in employment, yet my skillset & experiences increased exponentially since leaving the Marine Corps. In many ways the best skill I learned as a Marine is the understanding that there is a standard to be held, but always within the scope of the people. To be able to see the bigger picture & have situational awareness has helped me grow in my organizational skills during high pressure situations and events creating happy experiences for both sides.
As a Marine I was stationed on MCB Quantico where I worked in the Finance Office- travel section. I started as a data entry clerk. I worked up to the NCOIC position in charge of the office, to include facilitating audits with the external audit team (physical paperwork, filing systems, sops and digital data). During my time I had record turn around times for travel payments (to include special handlings for the hmx-1 team) as well as the best error rating for the office at .01%. For these efforts in leading the unit, I was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal (NAM). I worked daily with other base finance offices, coordinated claims & payments with the Kansas City office as well as lead a Marine Corps wide system upgrade. I coordinated with top government officials to recoop large sums from top officials erroneously paid to them during previous leadership.
During my time on MCB Quantico, I volunteered in a local elementary school tutoring math. I coordinated formal company mess nights and clothing inspections.
I held a security clearance for this position.
