Work History

Director of Organizing & Strategic Campaigns

Oregon AFL-CIO
03.2024 - Current

I helped create the Oregon AFL-CIO's Organizing Program and the Collective Bargaining & Strike Support Program. These are newer programs (less than 3 years) for the Federation. I was recently named Director due to my unique role in helping form them.

Responsible for the strategic direction of the Oregon AFL-CIO's Organizing Table; a space where Organizing Directors and Leads across the Federation share leads, coordinate, and share resources to strengthen Labor Organizing Statewide.

Responsible for the strategic Oregon AFL-CIO's Collective Bargaining Table; a space where affiliates across the Federation are finding ways to coordinate, strategize and harness resources, and refine the way unions support one another during contract negotiations.

Create and execute strategic campaigns designed to compliment the respective affiliate's contract and organizing campaigns. High profile examples include:

  • Bakers at Nabisco
  • Grad Students at the University of Oregon
  • Woodworkers at Weyerhaeuser
  • Food and Commercial Workers at Fred Meyer (Kroger)
  • A very high profile contract negotiation that recently began (sensitive)

Planning and executing the Oregon AFL-CIO's approach to Organizing & Bargaining related trainings. I have helped create a mix of calendar of regularly occurring trainings open to members across the federation and a system where I directly with affiliates to facilitate, plan, and create training curriculum tailored to the specific needs of that group. Some recent highlights of this work include:

  • Oregon AFL-CIO's 2nd Annual "Organizing Summit" is May 30th. 180+ union members attended last year.
  • In partnership with the Labor Education and Research Center at the University of Oregon, I helped organize Oregon AFL-CIO's first annual "Strike School" (Contract Campaign School) which took place late January. 92 Union members entering negotiations this year or in 2025 participated.
  • I joined the training cohort of the National AFL-CIO's Organizing Institute as a training fellow. Oregon AFL-CIO subsequently became the 11th federated body to be able to run 3 Day Internal and External Organizing Trainings in State. The last training was 10/30, and the first independent training will take place late August.
  • Partnering with affiliates to train their Contract Action Team Members, Bargaining Team members, Stewards and Union Representatives around Internal Organizing and Escalating Contract Campaigns. Recent and upcoming affiliate trainings include School Employees, Hospital Professionals, Postal Workers, Machinists.
