Learning a new language (ASL)

Learning American Sign Language has been such a rewarding and beneficial experience for me. As someone studying childhood education and working in a daycare, I’ve realized how important it is to be able to communicate with a diverse range of people, including the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. ASL isn’t just about learning another language; it’s about promoting inclusivity and making sure everyone has a voice, especially in environments like schools or daycare settings.

In my future career, I know ASL will be incredibly useful. Many children, especially those with developmental or speech delays, benefit from using sign language as a way to express themselves when verbal communication is challenging. By incorporating ASL into early education, I can help create a more accessible environment for all children, ensuring that they feel heard and supported. It’s also a great tool to support language development, as the visual aspect of signing helps reinforce comprehension and memory.
