Work History

Automotive Technician

HillTop Auto Service
Oak Harbor, Washington
06.2019 - 07.2025
  • BRIEF HISTORY - I have worked for over 6 years in a full-service auto shop. I started out learning how to change oil; by the end of my first year, I was promoted to manager of the express lube. after about 6 months of managing the express lube I was promoted to tech and began working in the full service shop.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE - I have a good amount of hands-on mechanical experience. I have worked on a large variety of vehicles, of all makes and models, from big trucks to small cars, and everything in between. I have done a lot of basic routine maintenance work, such as brakes, spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, alternators, tires, TPMS sensors etc. I am also capable of doing much larger jobs. Such as rack and pinion replacements, subframe replacements, clutch replacements, transmission replacements, etc. I have a good understanding of what misc seals, gaskets, fluids, etc., may need to be replaced or added to a quote before starting most jobs. I have also replaced a handful of engines, but those opportunities have been few and far between. I also have experience in service writing; I would write estimates, write invoices, and order parts for jobs when needed. Overall, I believe I have a good amount of hands-on mechanical experience. I don't know everything, but I am always happy to learn something new when confronted with a new mechanical situation. I think my experience, paired with my good attitude and willingness to accept constructive criticism and advice, makes me a good fit for any shop.
  • Service writing, estimates, and part ordering - I am very familiar with the Mitchell1 ProDemand program. I know how to use the program to find torque specs, R&R procedures, and diagrams. I am also very familiar with service writing. Using the ProDemand system, I am capable of writing estimates and invoices, and I understand the attention to detail that is expected to be in the service notes, and I have the ability to communicate it to the customer in an efficient manner. I am familiar with the AutoZone and O'Reilly's commercial account websites, and I know how to look up and order parts when needed. I can quote the job, order the parts, finish the job, invoice the job, and then contact the customer when the job is completed.
  • FLEET MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE - I am familiar with the routine maintenance schedules and deadlines associated with large fleet accounts. I am capable of understanding and completing fleet maintenance checklists and repairs in a timely manner if I am given the proper resources.
  • ROAD SIDE RESCUE REPAIRS - I have experience in fixing customers' broken-down vehicles located in unique locations, such as the side of the highway, a parking lot, a backyard, etc. I understand how to keep myself and the customer safe when attempting a road side repair, and have an understanding on when to stop or decline a road side repair, wether it be a dangerous location, or a very difficult repair to make without a proper lift/equipment.
  • WORK ETHIC - I have a good work ethic; I believe in doing the job right the first time, using the proper fluids, following procedures when required, and always using a torque wrench on wheels and any other torque-critical components. I also have respect for customers' vehicles, and always take caution when working not to damage or scratch paint, windows, etc. I have integrity in my work, and in the event that I make a mistake, I hope for the chance to take accountability, correct my mistake, and make things right.
  • THINGS I THINK I CAN IMPROVE ON/LACK EXPIERENCE IN -

Wiring: I have a basic understanding of automotive electrical systems and have successfully diagnosed electrical gremlins before, but it is definitely something I lack experience in; I did not have many opportunities to diagnose wiring issues.

Euro vehicles: While I have worked on a large range of vehicles, including basic maintenance with Euros, my former place of work did not accept work on most Euros, so I have not had many opportunities yet to work on many VWs, Audis, BMWs, etc. However, I'm not shy, and given the opportunity, I will gladly work on one.

Alignments: I have performed many alignments on Hunter alignment machines, whether it was because I replaced parts or the customer requested one. However, I had to teach myself how to use the machine. A proper walkthrough on how to use the machine efficiently would make me more confident in my abilities.
