Colin Calabrese

Hello! My name is Colin Calabrese and I am a current nursing student at the University of Pittsburgh. I come from a long family line of nurses, which originally sparked my interest in the career. After getting into Pitt, I most certainly had my doubts about how I would be able to handle the natural stress of the profession. However, upon my first clinical rotation, I knew that the career path I chose was the right one. Communicating with the patients always brings me joy and I ensure that I can give the best care I can to them at all times. My overall knowledge of nursing is growing and getting to apply new knowledge to each patient interaction is quite rewarding. I hope to continue to grow, so that I can provide cautious and affective treatment to my patients, all while putting a smile on their face!

Pitt Club lacrosse- I am a member of the Pitt club lacrosse team, which is a great experience to not only play the sport that I love, but to test my everyday discipline and balance my heavily loaded schedule. 

Men in nursing club member- As a member of this club, I plan to participate in local visits to high schools in Allegheny county in order to spread nursing knowledge to potential nursing students. In addition to this, I hope to shadow in the operating room as a result of this club membership

Fall 2023- 4D UPMC Presbyterian 

• First clinical rotation through the nursing school
• Gained in-depth knowledge on cardiovascular issues and medications
• 4 hours per week for the term

Spring 2024- 10N UPMC Montefiore

• Second clinical rotation
• Became proficient in ostomy, NG, Foley, and wound care
• 8 hours per week for the duration of the term

Fall 2024- 8C UPMC Children's Hospital 

• one shift per week in the NICU
• First day was 9/10/24
