My role as a Field Technician is to help determine the practices needed to improve cattle grazing and rangelands of tribal members properties and those of the Choctaw Nation.

Responsibilities

• Schedule sight assessments with land owners.
• Help execute the determined practices, such as timber thinning and eradication of invasive species.
• Fill out and keep updated logs daily.
• Fill out and submit a detailed weekly report.
• Attend team meetings.
• Assist the tribe's archaeologist conduct surveys.

The ranch is a cow calf/ yearling operation that runs approximately 170 cows and 80 head of yearlings with the owner not present the majority of the time.

Responsibilities

• Determined maintenance and organized repairs.
• Established strong relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent access to high quality feed, equipment, and other resources.
• Maintained ranch records and documents.
• Trained part-time help in livestock husbandry and ranch operations.
• Maintained cattle health and nutrition.
• Organized cattle workings and hiring of contract help.

The Clifton Ranch is a yearling operation, which handles 600- 800 head of steers year around.

Responsibilities

• Identified sick cattle.
• Took proper actions in isolating sick cattle.
• Determined the illness of cattle.
• Doctored the sick cattle and tended to them as needed.
• Kept an accurate head count.
• Made sure cattle were receiving appropriate amounts of grain.
• Processed new arriving cattle.
• Assisted the ranch owner with any ranch maintenance as needed.
