- Responsible for operating & maintaining Apeks Supercritical CO2 extraction machine
- Produces high quality extracts for the preparation of making distillate
- Extensive knowledge of supercritical & subcritical CO2 extraction principles
- Utilizes proper biomass preparation, extraction parameters, post-processing techniques like winterization with 200 proof ethanol and pre-processing including decarboxylation (usually known during post-processing)
- Grind the material finely while making sure the product has been dried before initiation
- Possesses knowledge of extracting terpenes at subcritical level before supercritical extract
- Implements standardized operating procedures for safe and efficient extraction processes and ensuring reproducibility
- Troubleshoots minor technical issues and perform basic repairs
- Responsible for routine cleaning, calibration, and regular maintenance of equipment for the extraction machine
- Maintains detailed records for each extraction batch produced, including pre-extracted starting weight of the material, post-extracted weight of the material, terpene yield, crude oil yield and winterized oil yield
- Calculates how much glass cylinder to use for a batch of crude oil, how much crude to add to each cylinder, and how much ethanol must be added with the crude oil
- Filter lipids and fats using filter paper so only the ethanol and oil is filtering through
- Operate the Buchi Rotavapor R-220 to recover ethanol from the oil, making sure the machine is set correctly for bath temperature for the boiling flask, chiller temperature, RPM for the boiling flask and vacuum pressure (mmHg)
- Operates B/R semi-automatic distillation machine ensuring product quality, monitoring & controlling variables to achieve the desired distillation outcomes
- Conducts routine inspections and calibrations of the distillation equipment.
