Within the Norton Cancer Institute located in Downtown Louisville, I'm assisting Dr.Amy Quillo with her tasks required to prep for total thyroidectomy surgeries. This position includes scheduling office visits, confirming urgency in patient diagnosis', evaluations/intake upon patient arrival to the hospital, patient prepping for CT scans, biopsies, & thyroid ultrasounds, as well as evaluating diagnostic tests results. This is a clerical position that includes outbound and follow up calls including office assistant duties. The duties of this position are heavily reliant on the effectiveness to communicate as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers.

• Currently in this job role, I am responsible for all community health work at multiple practice sites for Norton Healthcare. This position required me to obtain a car seat certification in Kentucky to assist with families in need of safety seats for babies or proper installations. I travel throughout the community, including home visits, to assess the social determinants of my patients, and locate resources that assist with transportation, education, employment, maternal needs, primary care physicians and more. Inside of the practices, I serve as a liaison between patients and their providers to assist with any concerns regarding transportation to the appointments, or insurance to cover the cost of the visit or medications. All patient information is medically charted or securely stored if I am working remotely. For practice site visits, I assisted with patient exams, patient greeting & room placement including symptom intake. This position included laboratory tasks with urine samples and vital signs, while updating patient accuracy in the medical chart & sanitizing and restocking medical equipment.

• In this job role, a Community Health Worker is responsible for offering resources to patients affected by violence in the city of Louisville. Patients that come into the hospital for a gunshot wound or stabbing are patients I see. I offer the patients assistance during their hospital stay when nurses or doctors are unavailable to help. The resources I offer to patients are available post-discharge. Including but not limited to housing assistance, employment resources, schooling information, wound evaluations, and more. This position included community events organized in hopes of decreasing violence-related injuries. In addition to the post-op care, I assisted with medical and clinical duties included but not limited to assisting with exams and symptom intake. During hospital clinc days, I assisted with laboratory tasks, changing wound dressings during home visits, vital signs, and patient education explaining medical information and special diet care.

• As a patient registrar, my job role consisted of making sure every patient within the emergency department had updated information in our data tracking systems. The information obtained was time-sensitive and critically important to be accurate. The information would be retrieved from patients actively in the emergency trauma room pending immediate surgeries. As a patient registrar, I retrieved basic demographics on level one trauma patients that were affected by a motor vehicle accident, stroke, gunshot, lacerations, burns, and more. The information documented was used by clinical staff to begin charting on patients’ admission.

• In this position, I assisted service members in communicating emergency family matters, such as serious illness, death in the family or birth of a child. After confirming the emergency, I would send a verified message to the military authorities who will then deliver the information to the armed forces member. This information is used to verify circumstances for emergency leave requests.
