Experience

  • Prepare, organize, and maintain highly complex sterile surgical set-ups
  • Observe and respond to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipate the needs of the surgeon by maintaining a high level of concentration for extended periods of time.
  • Utilize standard precautions and follows all infection control policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with the care of the patient's, i.e., positioning, prepping, and obtaining supplies.
  • Perform sponge and instrument counts to verify accuracy in conjunction with the circulating Registered Nurse.
  • Assist the surgeon by performing such procedures as preparing skin grafts, suctioning, holding retractors, applying skin staples, and cutting sutures.
  • Maintain OR area including assessing equipment needs and maintains adequate stock of supplies and materials.
  • Assist in training nursing students and new Operating Room staff in the operation of equipment, sterile technique, handling of instruments and OR procedures to include the scrub role in surgical procedures and assisting with updating and/or providing written SOP's pertaining to the Surgical Technician position.
  • Extremely knowledgeable of the scope of practice for Surgical Technologist and performs job duties only within that scope.
  • Advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, instrumentation and supplies with great anticipation skills.
  • Ability to work independently but as a team member toward a common goal with great prioritizing, organizational, verbal and written communication skill
  • Independently scrubs several surgical specialties such as, Orthopedics, Urology, Vascular, Endo–Vascular, Cardiovascular, Robotics, Plastics, OBGYN, G.I., Neuro, and General Surgery.
