As a Patient Companion at Common Spirit Health Virtual Hospital, I played a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of patients across the United States in a 24/7 virtual call center environment
My responsibilities include: Continuously monitoring high-risk patients for potential issues, such as falling, elopement, illicit drug/alcohol use, disorientation, line/tube dislodgment, or other safety concerns that could impact their healing process
Providing compassionate and calming virtual companionship to patients who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain, even in high-stress situations
Utilizing live, non-recorded streaming video equipment and two-way communication devices to maintain continuous surveillance and recognize emergency and non-emergency changes in patient behavior
Initiating immediate communication with patients when necessary and reporting any situations requiring direct intervention to ensure patient safety and comfort
Practicing active listening skills to anticipate changes in patient behavior and obtain critical details for efficient engagement with onsite staff
Serving as a lifeline for patient questions, an escalation trigger for immediate patient care needs, or a source of comfort knowing that someone is always present, even when not physically in the room
This role allowed me to combine my compassion for patient care with the ability to adapt to virtual healthcare environments, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Assisted disabled clients to support independence and well-being.
Monitored progress and documented patient health status changes to keep care team updated.
