Determine eligibility for Virginians applying for public assistance programs i.e Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program, Medicaid Program for families and children and the elderly. Performed in - depth in person and telephone interviews. Explain benefit programs rights and responsibilities to applicants/client according to federal and state policies and procedures. Provide coverage of the unit in supervisor's absence. Established communication with Social Worker, Local and State Departments of Social Services, State Department of Medical Assistance. Respond to clients inquires on status of application/review. Write appeal summaries and participate in appeals proceedings.
Selected by Department of Social Services Benefit Programs Specialist Manager to serve on the agency's Quality Council after 3 years of employment. Promoted to Benefit Programs Specialist III after 5 years of employment. Provide mentoring/coaching to new Quality Control Reviewer. Provide coverage of the unit in the supervisor's absence.
Provide guidance to new Benefit Programs Specialist in managing their case load. Allow them to observe me interviewing applicants and clients. Assistance them in problem solving in processing difficult cases.
