Dedicated police officer with over 34 years of service. Worked through the ranks and retired from the Tuscaloosa Police Department as the captain of the Traffic Division. In my role as a police officer I had to communicate effectively with the public in many different situations. Collaborated with multiple City of Tuscaloosa departments on planning special events.
Started career in the Patrol Division. Transferred to the Traffic Division in March, 1989.
While assigned to the Traffic Division served in a variety of roles including Hit and Run investigator, motorcycle instructor, RADAR instructor, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and retired as captain of the division in August, 2020.
Some of my many duties included generating duty rosters and implementing traffic plans for several special events in Tuscaloosa including University of Alabama football games, airshows, USA Triathlon national triathlon events, Tuscaloosa Half Marathon and several other 10K and 5K events. Supervised and commanded officers assigned to work these events.
Over the course of my career was involved in security and traffic escort planning for dignitaries such as President Donald Trump, presidential candidate George W. Bush, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and United States Attorney General Eric Holder.
Responsible for the day to day supervision and command of the officers assigned to the Traffic Division. As captain, was responsible for a lieutenant, a sergeant and 10 officers including the Hit and Run investigators and was also responsible for the department's Accident Reconstruction Unit. Duties also included keeping up with the payroll for the Traffic Division and being responsible for submitting the annual budget of the division.
Served on the City of Tuscaloosa's Accident Review Board and on the Mayor's Employee Advisory Council.
