My name is Daelen Andrews, and I am interested in joining and being a part of the prestigious Katy-Fulshear Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. I am 24 years old, I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University in 2023, and I have been a Registered Nurse working in the Intermediate Care Unit at Houston Methodist
Played Saxophone since the fifth grade, performed in and achieved full honors in both solo and ensemble performance throughout junior high and high school
Have a little sister, Kelsey going to Oklahoma University this fall
Into multiple sports, including F1 and Soccer
Very big into film, took classes in college and made "short films" in high school
I want to join this chapter for one simple reason: Altruism and new bonds. I have had the pleasure of being around Greek my entire life. My mother and aunts are AKAs, and my father is a Nupe. I witnessed firsthand how despite personal beliefs, state lines and borders, and political beliefs, black men and women came together to celebrate and help their community. I participated in community 5K’s, watched entire basketball tournaments be hosted and ran, saw acts of altruism and benevolence in lower income areas and places forgotten by the passage of time. I've seen all these things happen through the members of Kappa Alpha Psi, and I want the honor to be apart of that
I want to be part of something bigger than myself. To be with people that look like me, that understand what it means to be a black man in this world, to help guide and look out for me in times of need. The dancing and cane twirling of course is also an added bonus. However, in the end, I just want to create bonds with men that at the end of the day, I can call upon when I'm at my lowest, or when I don't know what to do next, or when I just need to talk about how good or bad the Texans are doing. Thank you for your time.
