I have been in the steel industry for over 22 years. I have found enjoyment in learning all aspects of the Rolling Mill and improving my skills. When I became a roller in 2010 I discovered my interest in leading people. Being a leader can be equally challenging and rewarding. - Oversaw our furnace outage, where we replaced two of our skid pipes and repaired several refractory issues. I worked closely with Morgan Lashley during this time.
- Oversaw production on a day-to-day basis.
- I was on call nights and weekends to assist the shift manager and roller when needed.
- Updated our R-factors and shear settings in the Russula program.
- Updated JSA's and Work Instructions.

- Operate the speed panel to ensure a tension-free mill.

- Control the reheat furnace, which includes monitoring drop-out and finishing temperatures, thermocouple temperatures, and controlling the furnace temperature during delays or shutdowns.

- Bar size the mill. This consists of checking bar sizes at the delivery of stands 1-14 using a set of outside calipers and a slide gauge. If the bar sizes were larger than what our flow sheet indicated, I would lower the mill until the thickness matched the specified bar size.
- Build mill stands utilizing overhead cranes, a robot for installing rolls in the stand chocks, and a rod roller to set the correct gap for the stand.
- Set up mill stands. Install and adjust entry/delivery guides to ensure successful start-ups on the mill.
- Check bar samples to ensure bar quality, such as surface quality, and to make sure bar measurements are within tolerance.

- Tag finished product bundles with the correct length, grade, size, and piece count.
- Saw-cut engineered-length bundles using two Hydmech band saws.
- Assist cold side operations during downtime and upset conditions.
- Crosstrain on the hot side mill, which includes learning how to bar size the mill, checking roll temperatures, cutting samples and checking bar dimensions, and assisting the mill operators with stand setup, changeovers, and preventive maintenance.
