During my work experience, I had the opportunity to work at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control at the The Ministry of Internal Affairs under the public relations office. I was working there for a period of two weeks, and this was mostly during holiday time of S.6 first term.
During my time there, our supervisor assigned my friend and I under the call center where different inquiries concerning visa issuance, permit allocation and many others are issued. Our first day of work was mainly orientation and an introduction to the sysre, and software. I was able to grasp the operation of the visa and permit checking softwares in a day and was moved onto replying emails from citizens of Uganda and different countries. The peak of our learning experience was answering calls from foreign citizens and Ugandan nationals that tested our communication skills and interpretation in regards to what happens at the DCIC (Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control). My friend, with whom in worked, were called upon in our second week of work to sit with one of our overall supervisors in the absence of another at the public relations office.
My work experience at The Ministry of Internal Affairs was peaked with a day's experience at the passport control office. I was stationed with one of the passport control officers that took me through the procedure of processing an individual for passport application. Through this even I learnt the neety greeties needed of me the next time I have to apply for a new passport.
I attained the skills of navigation through and around Kampala city as I waited to be picked up in the evening from my work place to be taken back to school. My supervisirs expressed their grattitiude towrdas rhe amazing job done and graded me highy on the assessment forms we were required to submit for review. Contacts were exchanged and I was encouraged to keep in touch even past my senior six completion.
