Summary

The canon of the New Testament:

Canon Laws provide for the governing of the Church and her members.

  • The New Testament was authorized with 27 books. With the Old Testament, these books became known as canon.
  • Canon translates to the word, rule.
  • For a book to be considered canon of the New Testament, the four criteria needed to be met, which were: Apostolic, Community acceptance, Liturgical, and Consistent.

The Roles of Peter and Paul:

  • Emperor Nero took the lives of both.
  • Paul: He wrote readings in the New Testament and traveled over 15,000 miles to spread the Gospel. He wrote numerous letters to cities to instruct them on Christian Doctrine.
  • Peter: He was the Alpha, which means the true leader of the church. He set up a method to replace Judas and was the first one to speak after the Pentecost. Interesting enough, Peter was willing to listen to Paul’s advice.

Trials and persecutions of the early church:

  • Roman Government mandated the worship of many Gods
  • Romans took over Israel and gave Jews religious exemption
  • Christians became scapegoats
  • Christians were martyred when they did not denounce their faith and worship roman gods
