I am interested in the biology of the human body, especially cancer. What draws me in is the paradox: cancer is not a foreign organism, but the body's own cells turning against it and disrupting homeostasis, which is the balance that normally sustains us through cell division and repair. I want to understand that failure at the molecular level, including how a normal cell becomes malignant and where science might intervene. Since I obtained an associate's degree in high school through an early college program, I have been involved in science from an early age. I am now ready to pursue it more thoroughly by studying cell biology and genetics and conducting practical oncology research, hopefully through opportunities provided by the Honors College and the Houston Scholars program.
