Pursuing full-time role that presents professional challenges and leverages interpersonal skills, effective time management, and problem-solving expertise.
I am currently officer in charge of all marine personnel, assets, expenditures and patrol activities in Klamath County. I have served three terms as the Klamath Peace Officers Association(KCPOA) President. I have been responsible for contract negotiations, grievances, mediation, arbitrations and officer involved shootings. Additionally I have also served three terms as a KCPOA patrol representative.
During my 21 year career with KCSO I have worked corrections, patrol, forest and marine and SWAT or SRT. I have been honored a number of times throughout my career in large part due to the team that has supported me for so long. Some of the most meaningful include:
I started with Alcoa Intalco Works as a Rod Shop Induction Furnace employee and after a number of years I transferred to the Reline Department as a bricklayer. I was elected as a shop steward for the Reline department and worked my way up the union leadership ladder to a full time IAMAW Negotiations Representative and High Performance Work Organization Representative. 'IAMAW is one of North Americas largest labor organizations. As a IAMAW labor leader I was initially responsible for disputes between my members and their insurance companies. I was very successful advocating for my members and was elected to fill the role as the chief negotiations representative for over a 1000 members at Intalco Works. Our team successfully negotiated numerous multi million dollar contracts for our members and their families. I was also responsible for benefits disputes, health and training, contract disputes and liaison between corporate and our members. I traveled to the IAMAW Winpisinger Training facility in Maryland many times for training and education opportunities. As times changed and industry started moving out of the US I was tasked with lobbying on behalf of our members and Alcoa. I spent the last several years with Intalco working in Washington DC with elected officials to keep our plant operational and in the US. I also spent a significant amount of time as a successful liaison with Governor Gary Locke on behalf of our membership and Alcoa.
I have testified several times in Senate Hearings to keep my membership employed and heard.
I am proud of the fact that our grassroots efforts kept Alcoa Intalco Works operational longer than any west coast aluminum smelter. I could however see the handwriting on the wall, so to speak, negotiated my final contract and sought out a more stable work environment for my family with the Klamath County Sheriffs Office.
