Lays out work from blueprints, sketches, verbal orders. Manufactures and installs interior and exterior items such as coamings, foundations, bulkheads, ladder, magazines, masts, stowages, tanks. Repairs and/ or removes and replaces damaged ship structures and fittings. Has knowledge of structural weldments and fitting. Working from templates: manufactures, install parts and assemblies with reference to base lines, waterlines, center lines, buttock lines, frame lines and other reference points. Prepares surfaces for welding, burning, riveting and lays out for holes to be drilled. This work is accomplished using miscellaneous hand, electric, and pneumatic tools. This work also requires the use of precision tool such as depth gauges for tolerance work. Coordinates and arranges for the work of several trades in conncetion with performing work from infromation received from blueprint, specifications, written and/or oral instructions. Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications and sketches. Lays out work and operates various types of machines and equipment. Makes templates and ensures certain operations standard procedures are used. Able to adopt work methods and procedures to cope with a variety of work situations and various types of metals.
