David Bess

Deputy Director - Chief of Law Enforcement 2014-2023. Served as Deputy Director to the Department Director as part of the Department's executive leadership team. Oversaw all operations of the Law Enforcement Division that included 500 sworn peace officers, approximately 30 professional non-sworn staff, 8 scientists in the Division's forensic crime lab, and approximately 1,000 volunteers. I also held every other rank in the Division from Assistant Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, and Warden.

Employed as the Assistant Silvaculturalist on the Tahoe National Forest. Duties included surveying and mapping forest regeneration projects, determining forest health and sustainability, management of crews performing planting contracts on the forest for adherence to scope of work and contract requirements.

Performed timber management duties throughout the Central District of the Sierra Nevada Range. Duties included timber surveying, timber cruising and marking, determination of timber boundary lines for logging operations and inspection for endangered species inside BLM property holdings.

Founded the automotive repair company in 1984, employing one person. Grew the company to include over 20 locations performing automotive repair, automotive sales of new and used vehicles, automotive rentals, and 2 Goodyear tire distributorships. Oversaw all operations of the company as the President of the Corporation, employing hundreds of staff members, managing all aspects of finance, advertisement and promotion, and real estate acquisition, as well as corporate administrative duties and daily operations.
