Summary

Motivated Police Officer committed to serving and protecting citizens from crime and dangerous activities. Extensive conflict and crisis prevention training. Specializes in de-escalated situations to provide optimal outcomes for all involved individuals.

My name is David Trevino Jr. I was employed by the City of Harlingen for fourteen years and have been a licensed Police Officer for approximately thirteen years and six months. Within those thirteen years and six months, I worked in the patrol division. I would be assigned a district each day in which I would patrol neighborhoods and businesses within my assigned district to ensure all was safe. I would respond to assaults, domestic violence, sexual assaults, shootings, subject(s) with a knives, subject(s) with a guns, robberies, thefts, criminal mischief calls, auto minors, auto majors. I work well and stay calm and collective during the stressful situations to ensure the safety of the citizens, officers responding, and myself. These calls had a main objective with me, to get there to protect the victim from the suspect, or to get there after the fact and make sure the victim is protected from danger, protected from further incidents, and is doing well. Most of the calls patrol received did come with a report. I was well-versed in the Texas Penal Code for criminal laws. I learned with every assigned call that required a report, I would have to ask the necessary questions differently to figure out what type of crime was committed. That helped me develop excellent oral communication skills as well as excellent typing skills with the reports that I received daily. The reports would be detailed and lengthy depending on how much information the victims or witnesses provided.

I am an officer that helps other officers in need whether it is trying to figure out what criminal charge fits the crime or if they have an arrest and need to complete or upload certain documents. This encouraged me to apply for Corporal when the position became available in 2017. I went through an interview with three supervisors assigned the task to make the selection. This gave me the opportunity to go through training and become certified as a Field Training Officer in 01/2018 as well as certified Intoxylizer Operator in 01/2019. The Corporal assignment allowed me to assist the supervisors on the field and with scheduling, typing up injury reports for officers, make decisions on the field when the supervisors were busy with more serious matters or incidents. I was also in charge of vehicle inspections, equipment inventory with officers in my shift to make sure they had equipment that worked properly and get them equipment that they did have. I was tasks with preparing charts that would highlight what areas in the city were being hit with thefts, burglaries, and robberies. The Corporal assignment was short lived as the department did not agree with the assignment and was not considered a "promotional or ranking position". The former police chief understood this and did away with the assignment.

I also have experience working as a part-time School Resource Officer on my off days of work. I have worked middle schools and high schools with Harlingen C.I.S.D. from 2020 through 2023. I have made reports as well as arrests during the assignments I worked and would receive calls from the SRO sargeant asking me to go to a specific school and handle the matter with the information I would gather when I arrived, whether it was an incident report or an arrest report.

This is a disclaimer about my Intoxylizer certificate. I was not able to keep my certificate active due to getting diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and not being able to return to work until late 2022.
