  • I have been a teacher for 35 years. I have had the opportunity to teach students with severe disabilities in both elementary and high school levels. I taught in a day treatment program for 10 years. Students with significant mental illnesses participated in a special program that provided both academic instruction and intense mental health supports. I was part of this program during the pandemic and developed many skills at that time to engage students in distance learning, as well as supporting their social-emotional needs. The last few years of my career, I have taught in a work-study classroom. My students are ages 18-22, and the focus of the program is to prepare them for life after school.
