Job Description

Desk Assistant, Housing & Residence Life, The mission of UAH Housing & Residence Life is to provide engaging, respectful, and well-maintained communities that cultivate resident success., The Desk Assistant (DA) position is to aid in the security of residence halls by monitoring who enters and leaves the building. The DA is the first staff member seen by residents, guests, parents, or faculty members and should serve as a positive representative of the university through friendly customer service. The DA also performs administrative tasks., Consistently check and confirm the IDs of residents entering the building., Ensure individuals are following the department’s guest policy., Monitoring building security, including but not limited to making sure doors are closed & locked, and placing work orders for damages to lobby/desk areas., Consistently learn and follow the listed protocols for emergencies and duty-related situations completely., Consistently document and address concerns or situations found by or presented to them., Providing residents and guests with excellent customer service by assisting students locked out., Practice proper and timely referrals for residents to departmental staff or other campus resources., Provide students with information about how to contact the support staff in the building., Communicate with students and take messages for the Resident Director or Residence Life Coordinator if they are unavailable., Keep the desk and lobby area clean and presentable., Help promote community or department events during their shift., Post any flyers from the Resident Director or Residence Life Coordinator in the lobby spaces during their shift., Assist in any decorations that support and create a welcoming environment during their shift., Maintain positive and open communication with residents, coworkers, supervisors, staff members, and campus partners., If called upon, assist in resident check-in and check-out processes., Complete all departmental paperwork for the position promptly., Participate in periodic performance evaluations and development plans., Follow the expectations listed in this document and the Student Staff Expectations Agreement., Create and maintain positive professional relationships within the department and across the university., Serve as an appropriate role model by following policies and procedures., Practice ethical stewardship of university resources., Attend all training and ongoing sessions arranged by HRL staff., $8.25/hour, All compensation is taxable., Availability and flexibility to pick up a minimum of 16 hours each semester., Registration as a full-time UAH undergraduate degree-seeking student., Applicants must be registered for at least 12 credit hours per semester., Be in good academic standing with UAH., Flexibility in their course and personal schedules., The ability to effectively work with university students., Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills., Ability to organize tasks, prioritize duties, and effectively complete the many components of the job., Approximately 10-month position (Late July through Mid-May), 08/11/24, 08/11/24 to 08/14/24, 08/15/24 to 08/16/24, 12/17/24, 01/02/25, 01/02/25 to 01/03/25, 01/04/25 to 01/05/25, 05/06/25, Staff members are selected to work for the Department of Housing and Residence Life, not a specific area, building, or space.
