I am responsible for answering 911 calls from the Kansas City Area, 314 square males. Directing those calls to the appropriate agency, such as police fire or medical services. Contacting surrounding agencies for help if they are boardering on another district such as Independence Missouri, Raytown Missouri and making sure information is collected both for officer safety and for court documentation if the situation calls for that. I need to remain calm during high stress situations, be witness to violent crimes and stay on the phone to make recordings for court and the violent crimes or sex crimes detectives. Its the first line in communication for emergency situations.
During my time with this angency I worked as a contract parent aide for a company that subcontracted with the Children's Division. I worked mainly in Jackson, Cass and Clay counties. My speciality was family drug court dealing with severe mental illness, drug abuse and the complex medical needs of children born addicted or exposed to drugs during pregnancy. I have a strong background in dealing with the medical issues and am certified in feeding tubs, trach care and maintenance. I was certified in CPR for infants and children but that has since lapsed since there wasn't a strong need after leaving the field.
I left this position when the funding for our program was lost and it was no longer financially feasible to remain. I was a single parent at the time and could not support my children taking a substantial pay cut.
I have excellent communication skills which are a must working for the communications unit It isn't just the ability to communicate but also staying completely calm in crisis situations that sometimes require helping someone understand delays or something not being a police issue but a civil matter between two people I cant say that I always succeed and don't have bad days, or that I never make mistakes But i consider every mistake as a learning opportunity for growth I'm honest about my mistakes and try not to repeat them, rather use them as a stepping off point for attempting new skills or a new way to approach situations
Also the ability to ask for help when I'm not sure what to do or I feel one of my supervisors or colleagues are better suited for solving a situation I'm struggling with
I am able to type profecientaly, approximately 240 words per minute although I have not been tested in a skills test for several years
I have a lot of interests involving anything nature, hiking and kayaking I love reading and education is such a strong passion of mine I love exploring interests and finding new and interesting things, always open to trying something adventurous
