As a Submarine Force Graybeard, I mentor, advise, and instruct submarine crews, officers in their pipeline training, and school staff in topics related to ship-handling, navigation, application of the COLREGS, operational planning, tactics and tactical systems, and preparation for submarine deployed operations
My specific duties include providing Bridge Resource Management (BRM) course to submarine crews
Outside of the formal BRM course, I provide instruction on radar operations, use of ARPA functions, and Submarine Force guidance related to surfaced operations and contact management to future department heads, Executive Officers, and Commanding Officers in their respective pipeline courses
During these training sessions, I lead classroom discussions as well as practical training scenarios in the Submarine School Bridge Trainer and navigation trainers
Additionally, I assist future department heads and submarine crews during their training using our various Submarine Multi-Mission Team Trainers simulating deployed operations in theaters around the world
This training involves tactics, tactical system employment, and weapons employment in both peacetime and wartime scenarios
Finally, my duties include offering feedback and advice to the Naval Submarine School Commanding Officer on all aspects of tactical training

As the COMSUBPAC N7 I was responsible for all aspects of non-nuclear training for the submarines in the Pacific Fleet
Working with my counterpart at COMSUBLANT, my responsibilities included establishing training requirements for the entire submarine force
The policies included evaluating curricula, determining the need for new courses and updating existing courses
My efforts in this role were based on my involvement in training and assessing Pacific Fleet submarines
Specifically within the Pacific Fleet, I: Provided direct oversight of the training for Pacific Fleet submarines during their preparation for extended deployments
This effort included my assessment and feedback of a crew's performance in training scenarios in port and at sea
During my direct observations, I provided training for the crews in order to improve their performance

Assisted submarine Commanding Officers with the development of their post-deployment operational briefs
Evaluated Pacific Fleet submarines in their ability to tactically employ their systems in peacetime and simulated combat operations
