Tutoring students and helping them pursue careers in the healthcare field is a rewarding experience that combines mentorship, education, and career guidance. Many aspiring healthcare professionals face academic challenges, particularly in subjects like biology, chemistry, and mathematics, which are essential for medical and health-related careers. As a tutor, I have worked with students to strengthen their foundational knowledge, develop critical thinking skills, and build confidence in subjects that are crucial for success in fields such as medicine, nursing, and biomedical research. Beyond academics, I also provide guidance on career pathways, helping students explore opportunities like internships, research experiences, and volunteer work in healthcare settings.
In my experience volunteering for an NYPD fundraiser, I helped coordinate a charity event that raised funds for police officers injured in the line of duty. My role involved greeting guests, managing donation collections, and assisting with a silent auction. Through this experience, I witnessed firsthand the collaboration between law enforcement and the community, as well as the generosity of those who came to support the cause. It was rewarding to be part of an event that not only provided financial assistance to officers and their families but also fostered a sense of unity and appreciation for public service
One of the most impactful aspects of this experience was witnessing the emphasis on patient-centered approaches in HIV care. The researchers not only focused on developing effective medications but also considered factors like adherence, quality of life, and stigma reduction. Discussions on long-acting therapies and preventive treatments like PrEP highlighted the evolving landscape of HIV management. This experience deepened my understanding of the scientific and ethical considerations in pharmaceutical research while reinforcing the importance of accessibility and equity in healthcare solutions for HIV treatment and prevention.
