Ambitious individual seeking an opportunity to shadow an anesthesiologist in order to expand medical knowledge, gain additional clinical experience, and enhance medical school applications in pursuance of achieving lifelong goal of becoming a physician.
• Helps patients with activities of daily living (i.e., personal hygiene, dressing, eating, maintaining continence, turning/transferring/ambulation) and changing linen, as appropriate to setting. Also assists with non-medical patient care duties, such as, making coffee, transporting patients, and distributing ice, water and blankets.
• Obtains and records patient vital signs, weight, nutritional intake and output, etc; reports information and observations to nursing team members in a timely fashion.
• Performs routine urinary catheter care, baths containing chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), blood glucose monitoring via finger-stick blood samples, and EKG testing.
• Collects and transports specimens, including, but not limited to, urine, stool and sputum, as requested.
• Acts as a "sitter" for patients needing constant observation.
• Checks, updates and maintains facility boards, pneumatic tube system and telemetry box reconciliation according to departmental policy, procedures and/or guidelines.
• Cleans patient bedside units and nursing areas not included in general housekeeping, and cleans equipment properly and distributes based on patient needs.
• Maintains inventory, requisitions and stocks work area with supplies and equipment.
