· Performs proper specimen collection, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation and storage
· Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations
· Prioritizes lab orders according to type (STAT, ASAP, routine, and timed studies) and performs various testing (including chemistry, coagulation, hematology, special chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, serology, immunology, microbiology, referral testing and more) following prescribed quality assurance policies and procedures
· Performs, evaluates and documents quality control checks
· Reviews testing results evaluating validity of test results in comparison to anticipated results indicated per procedure manual
· Reviews and evaluates validity and accuracy of test results, recognizing interdependency of tests, physiological conditions affecting results, patient age and normal values, controls, linearity errors, instrument codes, delta checks and more
· Correlates test results with diagnoses
· Responsible for preparing the donor, donor area and pheresis machine for the autopheresis process.
· Link equipment and soft goods used in the pheresis process to the appropriate donor.
· Monitors the donor and the pheresis process, responds to specific alarms or signals that may occur during the process.
· Maintains alertness and awareness to any reaction donor may have during or after the pheresis process.
· Record incidents that occur during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts and alarms, volume variances and donor adverse events.
· Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
· In compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), responsible for collecting plasma samples and moving plasma units to freezer to ensure product quality.
· Ensures accuracy of the units and ensures plasma units are properly stored according to SOPs, which could include unsuitable plasma units and samples.
· Utilizes sterile techniques to draw samples and uses heat sealer to assure the sterility and quality of plasma unit samples per SOPs.
· Ensure samples and units are packed and shipped in accordance with SOPs and center procedures. Prepares shipping and unit disposal documentation.
· Monitors freezer and refrigerator temperatures and immediately informs appropriate personnel if equipment is not functioning properly. Records variances.
· Conducts daily calibration of equipment according to SOPs.
· Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.
· Maintains clean efficient work environment, and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Follows all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promotes safety in all actions.
