• In January of 2024, I became the Clinical Nursing Supervisor over Robotics and Bariatric surgery in the operating room.
• In September 2024, I became co-chair of the Operating Room Value Assessment Commitee (ORVAC)
• Provided clinical supervision to the nursing staff in accordance with established protocols.
• Evaluated employee performance, identified areas for improvement, and provided feedback to nurses on their work performance.
• Actively participated in hospital committees related to quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
• Participated in professional development opportunities such as continuing education courses or conferences related to nursing practice.
• Provided guidance and mentorship to new nurses joining the unit through preceptor programs or one-on-one training sessions.

• Started PeriOp 101 program on October 1, 2019 to gain knowledge about working in the operating room environment.
• Collaborated with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals, facilitating efficient patient care.
• Prepped operating rooms for upcoming procedures by setting out and verifying count of all necessary equipment and assessing environment for compliance with asepsis standards.
• Consulted medical sources such as AORN to maintain knowledge in emerging and updated procedures and ensure ability to select appropriate equipment during procedures or treatments.
• Handled specimens for laboratory testing and ensured correct packaging and labeling.
• Assisted in positioning patient for the procedure being aware of circulation, body alignment, and pressure points.

Over the summer of 2018, I joined a summer nurse tech program at University Medical Center. During this program, I worked in the operating room. In the operating room, I gathered supplies, equipment and prepared surgical cases. During the program, I also rotated around the sterile processing department, endoscopy, Pre-op, and PACU. Some of the things that I did:

• Assisted patients with personal care, ambulation and general patient care needs.
• Assisted doctors, nurses and support staff with preparation for and conducting patient procedures.
• Transported patients to other areas of the hospital in wheelchairs and gurneys.
• Aided patients with mobility and activities of daily living.
• Conducted routine checks on patient vitals, blood pressure, and heart rate.

While volunteering, I was able to get certified to translate in Spanish for Spanish-speaking patients. I volunteered in the emergency department as well as in the mother/baby department. I would assist the staff by answering phone calls and transporting patients. This opportunity led me to choose my career path in nursing.
