As a DFR tech, I would do the initial teardown of a wrecked or damaged vehicle. Each vehicle had to be cleaned and thoroughly inspected for any unrelated damages. After taking apart everything, I would then review all additional damages and repairs with one of our shop estimators, and from there, it would move to the next part of the repair process. I would also reassemble vehicles at times or help out in any step of the repair process that was needed.
Hired initially as a utility worker. During this time, I was trained and certified on a forklift. After three months, I was trained to work as an atomizing melter. This process involved gathering different crudes and raw materials to melt together in a furnace to make different alloys with specific properties, which would then be poured out and turned into powder through the process of water atomization. A variety of different tasks had to be completed each day, on top of making sure your daily melt goal was achieved.
Disassembled wrecked vehicles, did any repairs needed, checked in, and made sure all new parts for the vehicle were correct and undamaged. Then, once all panels and pieces were painted for the job, I would reassemble the vehicle.
I started as a detailer after roughly a year I moved up to prepping or sanding and taping off vehicles and panels for paint. I then did some work painting but wanted to begin learning automotive repair so after about a year and a half of prepping/painting i began disassembling vehicles and doing small repairs. For about the last three and half years i worked at Colussy I disassembled wrecked vehicles , did any repairs needed, checked in and made sure all new parts for vehicle were correct and undamaged, then once all panels and pieces are painted for the job i would reassemble the vehicle.
