Work History

Bartender

Andy’s Pizza V Street
Washington, DC
04.2023 - 10.2024
  • Recruited to open significantly expanded Shaw venue, helping the business scale up from a small takeout operation a block away to a restaurant seating up to 200 customers inside and on the patio.
  • Worked all shifts behind the bar, primarily serving as opening bartender on weekends, with tasks including batching and replenishing all proprietary beverages in preparation for the evening rush and restocking all bar supplies, from napkins and straws to fruit garnishes.
  • Carried out company policy of treating customers as top priority from the jump by welcoming all guests with a personal greeting and a glass of water.
  • Served guests through a customized order-taking process using Square POS.
  • Helped launch and maintain the bar and beverage program, centered around drafts of craft beers and another handful of proprietary, pre-batched seasonal cocktails; also including the curated and competitively priced retail beverage component featuring beer, bubbly, red and white wine in climate-controlled display cases. Additionally helped to expand beverage offerings with successful launch of a line of fresh-squeezed, house-made lemonades.

Bartender

The Anthem
Washington, DC
10.2017 - 11.2022
  • Hired as original member of the bar team that opened this 6,000-seat venue.
  • Worked nearly half of all events hosted by the venue in its first five years, including a majority of sold-out music and comedy shows, plus many other types of events, including fundraisers, corporate bashes, and award ceremonies.
  • Established myself as an adept and adaptable employee with the skills, personality and stamina to serve from any bar or station, be it the high-volume first floor as one in a team of six bartenders, or the slightly lower-volume, higher-quality interactions on the second and third floors, working alongside two to five colleagues if not tending solo at the occasional pop-op.
  • Engaged with coworkers as a collegial team player willing and able to perform any task per shift, from setting up and breaking down assigned bar, to serving customers using the cashless venue’s POSitouch system for individual transactions and the special Rooam app for running tabs per show.
  • Established myself as one of a few regularly tapped to serve as the designated bartender in the owner’s suite, working solo from the bar area for as many as several dozen patrons – a mix of company executives and their loved ones, industry colleagues, and assorted other VIPs, as well as guests of the performers.

Bartender

DC Eagle
Washington, DC
07.2017 - 03.2020
  • Hired to bolster the small flock of long-serving bar staff of iconic former leather and fetish LGBTQ institution. Worked as a versatile part-time bartender capable of filling in as needed, including flying solo and running the bar alone on Sunday afternoons plus assorted weeknights. Served and interacted with guests using traditional cash registers as well as portable devices with Apple EasyPay.
  • Primarily served as one of three bartenders for weekend dance events organized by local promoters and attracting anywhere from 50 to 750 customers, ranging from a frightfully successful annual Halloween costume bash and dance party, to one-off rave-like dance parties with a core, largely straight following, to a popular second-Saturday monthly event produced by a veteran gay promoter featuring well-known guest DJs. Other Saturdays ushered in less-frenzied, low-key “club nights” presented by different leather clubs and social groups.
