While working for the Iowa Department Of Transportation part time during the winter I got to do a variety of different tasks! Running tandem axle dump trucks to single axle dump trucks. Used trucks to plow snow with and without wings. Learned how to use the different technology and levers/ controls in the trucks. Applying salt, 50/50, and brine. Running a front end loader loading salt and mixing 50/50 if needed. Loading brine into the trucks using the tanks and pumps. Assisted in cleaning out the brine maker. Cleaned the snow removal equipment after each use, running the pressure washer and fire hoses. Removed and installed snow blades on the dump trucks. Assisted with replacing the carbides on a wing. Helped replace a couple signs/ poles that got ran over or damaged. And serviced the dump trucks when needed.
Installed various accessories on atvs and utvs, performed oil changes and tire rotations, cleaned machines, set up jet skis and trailers, operated small and large forklifts for unloading semis and loading customer units, set up and serviced zero turn mowers, set up new atvs and utvs, replaced axles and front differentials, wired lights for machines, repaired wrecked units, replaced clutches and belts, and rebuilt utv engines, gaining extensive knowledge of power-sports and enhancing customer interaction skills.
While working for the township part time I did many different jobs such as patching potholes, mowing grass, cutting trees, traffic control, plowing snow, working on the equipment, sign replacement/ install, trash cleanup, weed spraying, weed trimming, replacing culverts, storm cleanup, and cleaning the equipment as well. I also ran multiple different types of equipment while working for the township. A few examples would be a tractor with a loader, large single-axle dump trucks with air brakes, pickup truck with a v plow and salter, weed trimmer, chainsaws, power tools, skid loader, mini excavator, pressure washer, scissor lift, and a plate compactor.
