2006-2014
I was assigned to security and worked every post from Transportation, Medical, Security, Visiting and the Hospital.During this time frame I was also assigned to the 832 control desk which allowed me to become proficient in preparing and reviewing Department forms ranging from time off to State Reportables. Further duties included delegating post assignments for different tours.
2014-2024
Commencing in 2014 as a Correction Officer I was assigned to the Canine Unit. I was trained as a Narcotics Handler. My duties included the prevention of narcotics into the facility through visiting.
In 2016 I was promoted to the rank of Corporal and became the first working supervisor in the Canine Unit. The unit consisted of seven handlers. Over the period of four years I effected over 100 arrests for multiple violations. I was given the task of coordinating and applying for Federal and State grants. I have been working closely with Nassau County OEM on Homeland Security grants. I have been able to secure close to 2.2 million dollars in funds for our Department.
In 2022 I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. During the 2022 Calendar year I was designated as an Investigator.
In 2023 I created our present training program. Said program was the first of its kind for our Department. in this time I expanded the unit from seven Canines to twelve Canines. I created an interagency training program which includes Suffolk County Sheriff's Department, NYPD Transit Canine, MTA Canine, NYCDOC Canine and Nassau County Police Department. This has afforded me the opportunity to meet with and form meaningful working relationships with Department heads of all these agencies. Due to my working relationships with these agencies and Homeland Security I was able to create three task force positions for our Canines and Deputy Sheriff, including the very first Electronics Detecting Canine in Nassau County. Through this partnership we have seized over 16 million dollars in asset forfeiture in which a percentage will be forwarded to the Department. Through my efforts and grant funding I was able to reestablish our Explosive Detection Canine who assisted in security at the recent cricket tournament.
