I am employed as an officer for ECU Health which covers nine hospitals in Eastern North Carolina. I was sworn in under the NC Attorney General's Office and East Carolina Health. The other officers and myself are responsible for maintaining the safety and well being of the hospital staff, patients, visitors and other officers.
I was elected in the fall of 1998 as the Sheriff of Gates County. I began with six employees and when I retired in 2017 there were a total of twenty-five employees under my direction. I was responsible for all criminal investigations, criminal and civil papers being served, providing security for court proceedings, etc. I also attended the NC Sheriff's Supervisor's academy at Duke University. The seminar was a two year training process and was put on by the Attorney General's Office.
I began as patrol officer. When I left Ahoskie Police Department, I was a first sergeant. I was in charge of sixteen patrol officers for their daily operations and schedules. I had multiple training in all fields of law enforcement. I received my advanced law enforcement certification while employed with Ahoskie Police Department.
As a Deputy with Hertford County Sheriff's Office, I make multiple arrests and served multiple criminal and civil papers. I received continuous training in law enforcement.
As a Deputy with Gates County Sheriff's Department, I completed thirteen weeks at the NC Justice Academy. After completion, I began my duties as a deputy for Gates County.
I provided technical guidance and instruction to staff members regarding repair techniques an safety procedures. During my employment I supervised seven other employees on a daily basis.
