Thesis: Perceptions of Prescribing Medications Among Nursing Professionals at Carlos Van Buren Hospital, Valparaíso.
Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental study was conducted. The main variables of the study were: awareness of the bill, frequency of medication prescribing by nursing professionals, and general perceptions regarding prescribing. Data were collected during the month of October 2012 using a 4-item self-administered questionnaire.
Results: A total of 82 nursing professionals participated, of whom 87.8% (72) acknowledged that they administer medications without a doctor’s order. 63.4% (52) were unaware of the existence of the bill; however, 68.3% (56) agreed with its passage.
67.1% (55) of the professionals felt qualified to prescribe medications.
Conclusions: Nursing professionals have a positive perception of
prescribing medications.
