Skip Cline 2023-2024 Recipient, the award description follows:
The Skip Cline Memorial Scholarship shall be awarded annually to an eligible Member Awaiting Initiation or a newly initiated member of Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at the University of Mississippi. The scholarship shall be given for the academic semester following the initiation of the recipient. The Harry "Skip" Cline, Jr. Memorial Scholarship on Friday, October 9, 1987, Harry "Skip" Cline, Jr. died after an accidental fall down a flight of stairs at the Kappa Alpha House. Skip was a bright, energetic young man who was always on the go. Skip had the unique ability of being able to walk up to a total stranger and strike up a conversation. He was a master of talking his way out of any situation - and he could smile even if he was in "big" trouble. Skip was always looking for a new challenge to conquer, and he strove to be the best that he could be. After his death, the members of the Chapter who knew him during his brief six weeks as a New Member wanted to do something worthwhile in honor of him. This scholarship is a means by which a young man who had an all-around good personality and attitude, a man who was always willing to help without being asked, and a man who strove to achieve his goals could be remembered and honored. Skip did not have a 4.00 average, or even a 3.00 for that matter, but Skip did have character, personality and an overall outlook on life beyond compare. By giving this Scholarship, Skip cannot be returned to us. But by keeping his memory alive perhaps we can inspire someone to emulate all that was good in him. And if that is accomplished, the "footprints on the sands of time" left by Skip Cline will be large indeed.
